2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible

Lexus fans might be quite familiar with the LC flagship coupe, but this is the first time it’s available as a convertible. It’s a distinctive, powerful roadster with an Aston Martin roar and Mercedes Benz style. It has a retractable, soft top but shares many of the same body lines as the standard Lexus LC coupe. This will be a detailed review of the 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible.

The Inspiration Series Convertible

There’s also the Inspiration Series model trim with only 100 examples being produced. It comes in a stunning blue exterior paint with custom 21-inch alloy wheels. The brilliant blue paint is inspired by the color of a morpho butterfly. Inside the cockpit, there’s white leather upholstery and advanced climate control. The steering wheel and shifting knob have Alcantara trimming, as well.

The Touring package adds a 13-speaker Mark Levinson premium sound system to the LC Convertible, plus a heated steering wheel and embossed headrest. Most of these interior amenities come with the Inspiration model trim, but if you don’t like the spectacular blue paint, then this might be the way to go. The Inspiration Series is extremely limited and carries an MSRP of $119,000.

Stylish Exterior of the 2021 LC 500 Convertible

The 2021 LC 500 Convertible hits the ball out of the park in the style category. There are triple beam LED headlights set into the front fascia. The signature illusion grille with hourglass shape is a hallmark of the Lexus brand and it fits the 2021 LC 500 Convertible quite well. The hood sweeps back long and low to house the enormous 5.0 Liter V8 engine inside.

It only takes 15 seconds for the hydraulic system to deploy the soft top of the 2021 LC convertible. You don’t even have to slow down. It can be done at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. There are two color options for the soft top. It comes in black or sand. The profile is one of the LC convertible’s best angles. It has flush door handles and large wheel wells to accommodate its 20-inch wheels.

The rear of the LC 500 Convertible has a broad spoiler and dual chrome-tipped exhaust ports. If the taillights of the LC convertible remind you of an aircraft, then that’s no accident. There are 160 LEDs along the rear of the vehicle that are designed to create a mirror effect. The result is something that resembles the afterburners of a fighter jet.

What’s The Interior of the LC 500 Convertible Like?

To call the interior of the LC convertible a cabin would be a bit of an overstatement. It’s more of a cockpit. The interior has an obvious concentration on the driver. The vehicle acts as an extension of the driver and even the front passenger will get a bit bored with nothing but paneling and the open road ahead of them.

The colors available for the upholstery are black, circuit red, and toasted caramel. The dashboard is dominated by a 10.3-inch touchscreen display. Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa and Android Auto all have compatibility with the multimedia interface. You can use voice activated controls to access navigation, make to-do-lists while you drive and listen to your favorite tunes.  There’s a 12 speaker audio system inside the LC 500 convertible. Some of those speakers are mounted into the rear seats.

The windshield sweeps over the cockpit at a very narrow angle to protect the driver and passenger from road noise and wind. There’s even a small wind screen in the rear of the cockpit, as well. The 2021 LC 500 Convertible takes climate control to another level. The HVAC system manages the air conditioning for several different zones around the cockpit. There are heating units in the seats, headrests, and steering wheel. There are even vents that can apply warm or cool air to the back of the driver’s hands while they’re gripping the steering wheel.

The steering wheel is ergonomically shaped to fit the driver’s hand in a way that maximizes comfort and control at high speeds. There are aluminum pedals beneath the steering column. The LC 500 Convertible has push button ignition, illuminated entry and a performance-inspired instrument cluster. You can find important vehicle performance information there with G-force meter alongside your RPMs.

The manufacturer calls the 2021 LC 500 Convertible a four-passenger coupe, but anyone with eyes could see that the rear bench isn’t suitable for adult passengers. Even on paper, there’s just 28 inches of legroom back there. The trunk has just 3.4 cubic feet of storage space. So, the 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible loses a ton of points when it comes to its useless rear.

How Fast is the 2021 LC 500 Convertible?

The 2021 LC 500 Convertible has a 5.0L naturally aspirated V8 powerplant that produces 471 horsepower and 398 pound feet of torque. The 2021 LC Convertible’s top speed on the track is 168 MPH. The 2021 LC 500 Convertible can travel from zero to 60 MPH in 4.6 seconds. However, it’s important to consider that this vehicle has a curb weight of 4,540 pounds. With the right weight reduction, this could be a sub 3 second roadster. Unfortunately, it’s the heaviest of the LC models.

The 2021 LC Convertible has rear-wheel drive and a 10-speed direct shift electronically controlled transmission. For such a powerful engine output, the fuel economy is surprisingly decent. The LC Convertible gets 18 MPG combined. It’s even better on the highway with 25 miles per gallon.

The LC Convertible has exceptional handling. There’s a new torsion box in the rear and other structural improvements to the chassis. The 2021 LC Convertible has independent double-jointed multilink suspension with coil springs on both the front and rear axles. One of the most impressive features is the Adaptive Variable Suspension. The AVS system makes automatic adjustments the suspension in response to various driving conditions in order to deliver unprecedented control. We’re talking hundreds of micro adjustments every second. The result is a driving experience that feels intuitive and vigorous – a true sports car.

Safety Gear from Lexus

Every 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible comes stocked with tons of advanced safety gear from Lexus. The Lexus Safety System+ comes with pre-collision warnings, pedestrian detection, lane departure alerts and lane keeping assist, intelligent high beams and dynamic radar cruise control. Every vehicle comes with a back-up camera and six airbags inside the cockpit. The standard LC coupe has eight airbags. Additionally, the LC 500 Convertible has blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and parking assist.

At the Finish Line

The 2021 LC 500 convertible has a starting MSRP of $101,100. With options and add-ons the price can climb to around $120,000. That’s if you can find one of the rare Inspiration Series models on the market.

The LC 500 Convertible holds back only a touch when it comes to high performance output. It’s a shame that the sport and dynamic packages don’t appear to be available for the LC 500 Convertible. These packages add performance enhancements and sporty carbon fiber pieces. Carbon fiber door scuff plates are optional, but hardly seem functional.

Otherwise, the LC 500 Convertible aces the elegance of a Lexus with its refined interior and well-sculpted exterior. The V8 engine is powerful enough to hang with supercars but tames the beast with next level handling and steering upgrades. You’ll have fun driving the LC 500 Convertible, for sure. Just don’t ask more than one other person to ride with you. It’s strictly a 2-seater.

Detailed Review of the 2021 Lexus RX 450h Hybrid

The RX mid-sized crossover is the most successful vehicle in the Lexus lineup. Its name is almost synonymous with hybrids because Lexus was a pioneer in the luxury hybrid section. The RX already does a lot of things well, and the hybrid version, the 2021 Lexus RX 450h is the luxury crossover to beat. 2020 saw a major refresh to the RX mid-sized crossover. So, the 2021 version is only slightly updated with more standard safety equipment and subtle style upgrades.

The 2021 RX 450h comes in four model trims. There’s the base 450h with all-wheel drive and hybrid fuel economy. There is a 450h F Sport with all-wheel drive and an F Sport Black Line Special Edition. The Special Edition is a limited run with only 1,000 vehicles. Lastly, there’s the 450hL. This model stretches the vehicle to accommodate a third row of seating.

Real Review of the 2020 Lexus RX

2021 Lexus RX 450h: Performance First. Hybrid Second

The 2021 Lexus RX 450h gets a combined 30 miles per gallon. There are thriftier hybrids on the market, but very few that can match the performance of the 2021 RX crossover. It’s capable of reaching 308 horsepower on the F Sport and 450hL models. There’s a rotary dial selector in the center console. It’s a drive mode selector that toggles between eco, normal, sport, and an EV mode that drives the RX hybrid for short distances solely on electric power.

The 2021 RX Hybrid has a 3.5 Liter V6 engine with dynamic torque all-wheel drive. The gasoline engine is bolstered by two electric motors and a battery bank. The hybrid powertrain is managed by an 8-speed electronically controlled CVT with paddle shifters on the steering column. In truth, the gasoline engine produces front-wheel drive, and the electric motors propel the rear.

The 2021 RX Hybrid can go from zero to 60 mph in 7.9 seconds, but you should know that its speed is reduced to 8.1 seconds in the 450hL. All of the hybrid RX vehicles have a top track speed of 112 miles per hour.

Does F Sport Make the RX Hybrid Faster?

Although the F Sport model doesn’t do much to improve acceleration or top speed, it does sound better. That’s because the exhaust sound is channeled through the cabin to add sportiness to the RX hybrid’s driving experience.

The F Sport RX Hybrid isn’t all about speed, but really shines in its handling. It has adaptive dampers that tighten the steering response making the RX Hybrid drive more like a sports car and less like a clunky electric concept car. It also has an F Sport tuned suspension on the front and rear chassis. The result is a corner carving crossover that really sticks to the road.

Upscale Style of the Lexus RX Hybrid

Looking at the exterior of the 2021 RX crossover is a bit like looking through a kaleidoscope. There are angles, cuts, and reflective paneling everywhere along the body. The 2021 RX Hybrid has a pinched, hourglass front grille with trim LED headlights. Overall, the front of the Lexus RX presents the vehicle as a sharp and edgy hybrid.

The angular exactness of the RX’s style is toned down a bit in the profile. Lines are a bit more subtle with a floating roof over the rear C pillars. The RX has a power liftgate. The hourglass motif returns in the rear of the RX and so do the sharply tapered lights.

The 450hL is a bit longer (by about 4 inches) to accommodate a third row of seating inside. The difference is negligible from the outside, but unmistakable from the interior cabin. For 2021, power-folding and auto dimming side mirrors are standard.

18-inch wheels come standard on all RX vehicles, all but the F Sport models. Those have dark alloy 20-inch wheels that fill the wheel well nicely. The F Sport Special Edition has a sporty black strip of paneling on the profile and a blacked-out grille.

Interior Comfort and Convenience

The seating has synthetic leather, but real premium leather can be equipped with a luxury package. Even without genuine leather, the contrast of wood trim creates the refinement that a Lexus customer would come to expect from a luxury crossover.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel and soft touch surfaces make the RX hybrid a cocoon of comfort, but that comes as little surprise given the RX crossover’s reputation. There’s 44.1 inches of legroom for front passengers and 38 inches of legroom for rear passengers. As far as mid-sized crossovers go, the 2021 Lexus RX Hybrid checks all the boxes as a five-seater.

The 2021 450hL adds a third row of seating to the RX Hybrid, but any adult would be frustrated with the amount of space back there. It only adds a single passenger space, so it’s out of sorts to call it a “row”. To be fair, the 350L (the non-hybrid model) has seating for 7. The one saving grace of the 450hL’s interior is the available rear captain’s chairs that recline.

The F Sport can be outfitted with brushed aluminum accents and bold red leather with thick side bolsters, which instantly transform the 2021 RX into something akin to an Aston Martin or Porsche. Nobody will be able to accuse the Lexus RX of being tame after a ride in the F Sport.

Safety Equipment from Lexus

Thankfully, the 2021 RX Hybrid crossover gets Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alerts as standard safety equipment. That’s a new addition to the 2021 line. The Lexus Safety System 2.0 comes standard on all RX 450h vehicles.

That safety suite comes with lane tracing assist and lane departure warnings. Drift too far and the steering assist gently guides you back between the lines. There’s a pre-collision warning system with pedestrian and road sign detection. Plus, there’s intelligent high beams and adaptive cruise control.

2021 Lexus RX 450h Technology

Inside the cabin, the eye is immediately drawn to the touchscreen display. It sits high over the center console creating a top-heavy cliff-face that cascades down toward the drive mode shifter. The 2021 RX Hybrid comes with an 8-inch touchscreen, but it’d be hard to resist upgrading to the navigation package.

That’s one of the best packages that Lexus offers on the RX Hybrid. It has a 12.3 inch touchscreen with navigation and a premium 12 speaker sound system. Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, Voice Commands, and Apple CarPlay are standard tech features. You also get six USB outlets and a 4G Wi-Fi subscription service.

At the Finish Line

If you’re shopping for a luxury crossover SUV and the Lexus RX 350 AWD has caught your eye, then you’d might as well get the RX 450h. It’s just about $1,200 more than the standard RX crossover. The chart topper in terms of price would have to be the 2021 RX 450h F Sport Special Edition. It has an MSRP of $51,885. If you get caught staring too long at all the options and packages, then this vehicle could cost you upwards of $50,000 in any guise. Count on it.

That being said, there aren’t many downsides to this vehicle. Plus, there aren’t many luxury hybrids that can match the RX 450h on fuel economy, safety features and performance. So, it’s a good buy in the arena of luxury vehicles and the hybrid powertrain is a bonus.

2019 Lexus RX 350 Configurations Review

The 2019 Lexus RX 350 positions in the upper third of this luxury midsize SUV class. It features a slick ride, lots of standard protection technologies, and a great predicted reliability score, but its competitions possess nimbler management and more space for cargo.

You can own the 2019 Lexus RX 350 in two configurations: base and F Sport. Both trim levels come with the same engine and are available in front- and all-wheel-drive. The base 2019 Lexus RX 350 is just nice, but I’d put my cash down for the 2019 Lexus RX 350 F Sport. On top of the entry-level model’s conventional equipment, the F Sport adds an adaptive suspension, heated and ventilated front seats, and one of a kind design touches. For me, it’s worth the added cost.

The 2019 Lexus RX 350 is definitely among the most appealing luxury crossover SUV. The Lexus RX’s appeal owes partly to a large selection of configurations but also to its long list of standard features, such as adaptive cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control and leather upholstery. There are tons of high-end features to pick from, too, like a 12.3-inch center display screen, a 15-speaker stereo, and a panoramic sunroof.

Though the 2019 Lexus RX 350 is not really built for off-road duty, Lexus raised the crossover’s all-independent suspension marginally last year, enabling it to clear more obstacles than you may think. The motor is a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 295 horsepower and matched to a discreet eight-speed automatic transmission. Both front- and – all-wheel drive is offered. There is also a 350L version this year that is longer and has a third-row seat.

2019 Lexus RX 350 Trim Levels

The 2019 Lexus RX 350 is a five-passenger luxury crossover that can be in either a base model or F Sport versions. They both include a 3.5-liter V6 engine (295 horsepower, 267 pound-feet of torque), an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional, however.

Base

The entry-level base model comes with 18-inch wheels and tires, automatic LED headlights (with automatic high beams), rear privacy glass, a capability liftgate, keyless ignition and entrance, dual-zone automatic climate control, simulated leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, a power-adjustable steering wheel, a 40/20/40-split rear seat and a rear cargo cover.

Also standard is a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, Safety Link crisis communications, a package of driveway defense aids (the Safety System+ package, such as lane departure warning and intervention, in addition to forward collision warning and reduction with automatic emergency braking), Bluetooth, an 8-inch screen screen, a smartphone-integrated navigation program and a nine-speaker audio system.

Options

The Premium package can be found on non-F Sport versions and includes auto-dimming side mirrors, a sunroof, automatic wipers, driver-seat memory capabilities, leather upholstery, wood configuration, and a rear armrest storage compartment. The Luxury package (also only on base model models) comprises the Premium package items and includes 20-inch wheels and tires, a heated steering wheel, rear door sunshades, upgraded leather upholstery, and four-way lumbar adjustment for the front seats.

F Sport

The F Sport is the choice at the RX lineup, and also in addition to the conventional RX gear it features the Premium package contents, sportier exterior styling, 20-inch wheels and tires, adaptive suspension springs and shocks, increased motor audio, transmission paddle shifters, unique springs, heated and ventilated sport seats, leather upholstery and special interior spec. The F Sport can be accessible with all-wheel driveway.

Options

When you upgrade to the Navigation package, you get a navigation system, the Remote Touch technology interface, a bigger 12.3-inch screen, voice controls, the Lexus Enform App Suite along with a 12-speaker audio system.

Other options include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and automated braking, a panoramic-view backup camera, either a regular or a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, power-folding second-row seats, a towing package (with an upgraded cooling system), front and rear parking sensors, a hands-free liftgate, upgraded LED headlights (with 18 individual LED accent lights), a color head-up display, a heated steering wheel and a 15-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.

How Much Does the 2019 Lexus RX 350 Cost?

Beginning at $43,570, the starting price of this 2019 Lexus RX 350 is far less expensive than many other luxury midsize SUVs. The three-row RX 350L has an MSRP of $47,770, and the RX 350 F Sport starts at $49,220. This undercuts the entry-level model costs of several rivals, for example, 2019 Land Rover Discovery. All-wheel drive adds $1,400 to the cost of every model.

2019 Lexus RX 350 vs. Audi Q5

The newly redesigned Audi Q5 is unquestionably a section leader one of the nicest luxury crossovers. It features a great interior, together with a comfortable street ride and lots of standard equipment. The Audi is somewhat more compact than the RX 350, meaning, less front and rear legroom, but it tops the Lexus for rear cargo space.

2019 Lexus RX 350 vs. Acura RDX

The recent Acura RDX is a far cry from the previous-generation version. Redesigned for 2019, the RDX is currently a lot more entertaining to drive. Though many of the Acura’s desirable characteristics are buried at the top configuration levels, it still offers quite a lot of gear for the money — a totally topped-out RDX is just a couple grand over an entry-level model RX 350. And compared to the RX 350, the RDX has more rear cargo space.

2019 Lexus RX 350 vs. Porsche Macan

If you’re searching for an educated, sporty driving experience on your luxury crossover, the first automobile on your list should be the Porsche Macan. Outstanding steering, handling, and on-road feel make the Macan the sports car of this luxury crossover bunch. The RX 350, however, is taller, wider and longer than the Macan. This provides the RX 350 more passenger and cargo space.

2019 Lexus RX 350 or Infiniti QX60

The Infiniti QX60 Is an Excellent luxury midsize SUV. It’s standard three-row seating and far more cargo space than the Lexus. The QX60 and the RX 350 have a great deal in common, such as V6 engines with similar horsepower ratings and fuel economy estimates. Between the two, however, the Lexus is the better choice. It’s a smoother ride and more standard security features. Lexus also provides the RX as a hybrid, but there is no hybrid QX60. Overall, you are better off using the Lexus.

2019 Lexus RX 350 or Lexus NX

It is smaller than its sibling, though it’s almost as much cargo space. Both the NX and RX offer hybrid versions, but even the nonhybrid NX will help you save money at the pump. However, the most important reason to pick the NX within the RX is cost. With an MSRP around $36,200, the NX will save you approximately $7,400 on the entry-level model RX 350. For those who have any room in your budget, however, the RX is the better SUV. It’s a softer ride, a peppier engine, and a nicer cabin with more room.

Final Thoughts

The 2019 Lexus RX 350 is a fantastic crossover SUV. Its upscale interior, ample seating space, and comfortable ride add to its allure. But, cargo space is low for the course, even when comparing the three-row RX L with the two-row versions of SUVs such as the BMW X5 or Hyundai Santa Fe. The RX is competitively priced and worth a look, but by the same token, it is worth considering a few of its rivals prior to picking this luxury SUV.
